About Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab

Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab, A Jewish Senior Life Community, was founded in 1916. Formerly known as the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania, our warm and inviting senior community has earned a reputation as the region’s premier provider of short-term rehabilitation, long-term skilled nursing care, and memory care. The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Alzheimer’s Unit has been recognized for its exceptional care of people with memory impairment conditions.

What began as an orphanage — The Jewish Home for the Friendless — has grown to provide a broad range of social services, health services, and housing services to seniors of all faiths in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Our Present

Elan Skilled Nursing, along with our sister organizations, Elan Gardens Senior Living and Webster Towers operates under the leadership and governance of our parent organization, Jewish Senior Life of Eastern Pennsylvania. Our current service repertoire includes independent living, personal care, short-stay transitional care, on-site residential dialysis center, memory care services, and long-term skilled nursing care.

Our Future

After several years of planning that involved the boards of our affiliates, our staff, and many interested community volunteers, we are implementing a strategy that will serve us well as we embark on our next one-hundred-year journey.

As the environment of nursing facilities has changed, we now serve many patients between their discharge from the hospital and their return to home or personal care. This creates the need for a separate and distinct care area tailored to the needs of patients who have been released from the hospital following a serious illness, injury, or surgery, but who need more time to recover before safely returning home.

The leadership and innovation of Jewish Senior Life in its operations of Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab, Elan Gardens Senior Living, and Webster Towers offers sustainability, ensuring that future generations continue to benefit from dignified and compassionate service to our elders.

Every Big Change in the World Starts With One Person

In 1916, Mrs. Selma Stark founded the beginnings of our current operations. Through her fundraising efforts, she afforded the purchase of one home to care for orphaned children, the elderly, and the infirm. Thanks to Mrs. Stark, our organization provides quality care, services, and housing for 260 seniors.

We hope you will consider joining us in making a difference in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre community.
