A Letter to Families and Friends of The Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania

Friends and families,

Thank you for your continued support during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Our guidance from state and federal governing bodies changes at a rapid pace.  Many of the recent changes surround testing of our residents/staff and the impact on our reopening plan.  Our main goals remain to provide high-quality care and to keep your loved ones safe.

As we are moving into fall and more inclement weather, our indoor alternative for patio visits continue to be our main dining room.   Our team is working on some layout alternatives to improve it as we move into the colder weather.   We are not planning to reopen our main dining room in the near future for regular use at meal times due to logistic concerns with being able to socially distance in our elevators to transport larger groups down for meals.  For now, we are fortunate to have this space available.  Parking is easily accessible to this area from our rear parking lot.

Our next scheduled routine COVID testing for staff is October 12 and 13, 2020.

For more information, please visit the DOH website: https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Guidance/SNF-Guidance.aspx

Test results are reported on our daily call in line at 570-207-6711.  Specific details on our reopening plan is listed on https://jhep.org

Beauty Salon. By the end of next week, all of our residents will have caught up on hair appointments since the time we were able to reopen our salon.   We will be moving to setting up routine appointments.  Our beautician will continue to come to our facility one day a week while we remain in phase 3 of our reopening plan.  Please contact your family member’s social worker if you have questions about appointments.

Life Enrichment.  Resident council meetings were held this past week on each unit. Residents reported that they are pleased with on the new menus implemented this month. The Life Enrichment team is incorporating some addition off unit programs of groups of 10 or less residents into our calendar.

Yesterday, the girls from Bais Yaakov High School, made a return in a volunteer capacity.  These young ladies decorated our sukkah located outside on our patio while the residents were able to participate by watching through the window of our Life Enrichment Center.  These young ladies have always been active volunteers prior to COVID.  I would like to thank them for taking part and enriching our residents’ day.  COVID precautions have limited our volunteer opportunities so this a special opportunity to reconnect during this holiday season.

Today our staff is having a paint-pouring activity in our Life Enrichment center that looks like it going to be a lot of fun.  Be sure to check our Facebook page for upcoming pictures: https://www.facebook.com/thejhep/.

Please follow our Facebook page or our website https://jhep.org/events/ to keep up with the fun activities of the week.

Thank you again for your ongoing support, and stay safe.

Sincerely,

Mary Rose Applegate, MBA, RD, NHA
